Town nears decision on West Kelly housing
After half a year without progress on a controversial housing project, town officials are poised to move ahead with workforce units near the fairgrounds.
The Town Council on Tuesday took the penultimate step to approving an apartment complex at 440 W. Kelly Ave. The proposed project has fueled intense debate over how to develop housing in areas slated for higher density. As a group of wary neighbors continued to call for moderation, three of five councilors resolved to create homes for as many local workers as possible on the site.
“If we have to choose between the neighbors feeling good about our policy and creating policy that benefits our entire community,” Mayor Pete Muldoon said, “we have to choose policy that benefits our entire community.
